The last game in a long hard season for the UCD faithful was against Sporting Fingal in the Morton Stadium. The night didn’t get off to a great start as out supporters bus turned up five minutes late still with 70minutes till kick off there was no need to worry. One hour later we were stuck in heavy traffic about twenty minutes from the stadium but thanks to our bus driver fast thinking and speedy driving we were only six minutes late!
In that first six minutes Sporting Fingal had scored two goals. The second one went in just as we paid for our tickets. Sporting Fingal had a fantastic promotion on called “Pay what you want”; this meant that supporters could pay anything from 1c up to 50c. I paid 50c which mighten seem a lot but it was better to one of the guys on the bus who only paid 1c and another two only paid 3c but the guy in charge of the supporters club did redeem UCD fans by paying the usual price of 15euro.
When we where finally in the stand it wasn’t long before our night got even worse when we found ourselves three nil down after 30minutes. We did manage to pull one back when Michael Leahy scored a diving header but Glen Crowe stopped any attempts of a comeback when he scored his second and Sporting Fingal’s fourth as the game ended 4-1 to the home side.
The ride back on the bus was a much less dramatic event as we made quick time through town and arrived back outside UCD twenty minutes after leaving the Morton Stadium.
It was an eventful night that unfortunately we couldn’t get the result we wanted but in the end the game didn’t matter and we can now look ahead to next season. Thanks for reading and I’ll talk to you next season!!!
