Algarve and FA Cup... Aine O'Gorman's Column #2

Algarve and FA Cup...
It’s been a busy month, it started with a ten day training camp in Portugal to compete in the Algarve Cup, it was the first time the squad have been together this year so was important preparation for our UEFA Qualifier against Scotland next week which I believe is a game we must get something out of if we want to qualify for finals in Sweden 2013.
On returning to Doncaster preseason was coming to an end and we were London bound for the FA Cup against Barnett in which we didn’t expect to be an easy game, we didn’t play particularly well on the day but still should off won in normal time, we had to work hard and show character to get the 2 – 1 result we deserved, thanks Sue Smith equalising with a quality strike but sadly shortly after she was stretchered off after rupturing her  cruciate and medial knee ligaments, she will be missed on the pitch but have no doubt she will have a good recovery and be back in red and white as soon as possible. It was a dramatic end to the game with Leandra Little getting the equaliser in the dying minutes of extra time! After a tough 1st match day we could only improve for the rest of the season.
The following weekend my parents came to visit and watch our first home match against Bristol in the FAWSL League Cup, it was great to see them but wasn’t so happy we lost 1 nil in a game I feel we at least should of got a draw from and I should have been on the score sheet but onwards and upwards.
Focus for the Belles will be the 1st league game against Chelsea away on Easter Monday and it’s time to get them back after they disappointingly knocked us out of the FA Cup 5th round last weekend.
April is a crucial time to pick up valuable points for club and country and a few goals along the way would be a nice bonus as well J
